Sometimes, the best window is the one that simply disappears. A Picture Window (or “Fixed Window”) is designed without sashes, rails, or screens to provide a pure, unbroken view of the outdoors.
At Advanced Home Services, we understand that a Picture window is more than glass; it’s a canvas. Whether you are framing a backyard garden in South Windsor or looking out over the water in Riverside, our custom-sized Picture windows serve as the focal point of your home’s architecture.
Designed to blend seamlessly with our Casement and Awning windows. These frames have a slightly thicker architectural profile, ensuring that your “fixed” windows look identical to your “operating” windows.
Designed for the purist who wants maximum glass area. The frame is minimized to be as thin as possible, giving you the most light and the least amount of vinyl obstruction.
A window that doesn't open is a window that doesn't leak. Picture windows have zero air infiltration because they are permanently sealed to the frame. They offer the highest R-values of any window style, acting as a transparent insulated wall against the Essex County winters.
Because there are no moving parts, Picture windows can be built in almost any shape. From standard rectangles to architectural geometric shapes (half-rounds, trapezoids, triangles), we can custom-manufacture a window to fit the unique character of your home.
In our climate, the winter sun is a valuable resource. A large, south-facing Picture window acts as a passive heater, trapping solar energy during the day to reduce the load on your furnace.
No screens. No check rails. No handles. Just pure glass. Picture windows are the ideal choice for living rooms and dining rooms where ventilation isn't the priority, but the view is.

Picture windows are rarely used alone. We typically install them in a “combination” setup, with the large Picture window in the center for the view, and operating Casement or Hung windows on the sides (“flankers”) to provide airflow.
Since the glass doesn’t tilt or crank in, you must clean the exterior from the outside. For ground-floor windows, this is easy. For second-story Picture windows, we recommend using a long-handled squeegee or hiring professional cleaners.
Generally, yes. Because they lack mechanical hardware (cranks, hinges, balancers) and screens, Picture windows are often more affordable than their operating counterparts of the same size.
Yes. This is a popular upgrade. We can remove the mullions between several small, dated windows and install one large, continuous Picture window to dramatically modernize the space.
Glass is heavy. While we can make massive Picture windows, there are maximum size limits based on the structural integrity of the vinyl and the glass weight. For extremely large openings, we may need to use tempered glass or reinforce the frame.
Building code requires safety glass if the window is very close to the floor (usually within 18 inches), near a door, or in a bathroom near a tub. We will assess your layout to ensure full code compliance.
No. Since the window does not open, there is no need for a bug screen. This is a major benefit, as screens often trap dust and slightly obscure the view.
Yes. Because there is no opening mechanism to force or pry, a locked Picture window is incredibly secure. The only way in is to break the glass, which is difficult with our double or triple-pane glazing.
