From the Victorian red-bricks of Walkerville to the sprawling ranch-styles of South Windsor, the “Hung” window is the backbone of local architecture. But these aren’t the sticky, drafty wooden windows of the past.
At Advanced Home Services, we have reinvented the classic vertical-sliding window. By combining a traditional look with state-of-the-art balance systems and energy-efficient glass, our Hung windows offer the perfect blend of curb appeal and daily practicality.
The ultimate in convenience and airflow. In a Double Hung window, both the top and bottom sashes operate independently. This is our most popular choice for multi-story homes.
The cost-effective, timeless choice. In a Single Hung window, the top sash is fixed in place, while the bottom sash slides up to open. It delivers the same classic look with fewer moving parts.
Put the ladder away. Our Double Hung windows feature a specialized latch system that allows the sashes to tilt inward. You can clean the exterior of your second-story windows while standing comfortably in your bedroom—a game-changer for spring cleaning in Windsor.
Casement windows crank outward, which can obstruct walkways, patios, or decks. Hung windows slide vertically within their own frame, making them the perfect solution for walls adjacent to porches, sidewalks, or landscaping.
Heat rises. With our Double Hung windows, you can lower the top sash to let hot indoor air escape while raising the bottom sash to draw cool breeze in. This creates a natural convection cycle that cools your room faster than a standard window.
If you live in an older Windsor home, maintaining the architectural character is key. Our Hung windows feature traditional sightlines and optional "Colonial" grille patterns that mimic the look of historic wood windows, but with the performance of modern vinyl.

It refers to how many panels move. In a Single Hung, only the bottom panel moves up and down. In a Double Hung, both the bottom and top panels can slide up and down.
Double Hung is superior. Because you can open the top and bottom simultaneously, you encourage natural airflow circulation (warm air out the top, cool air in the bottom).
Yes. Hung windows are the best type of window for portable AC units. The sash slides down securely on top of the unit and the side accordion panels, creating a secure fit that you can’t get with crank-out windows.
Not anymore. Old wood windows relied on weights and pulleys that broke. Our windows use a Constant Force Balance system (a stainless steel coil) that ensures the sash glides smoothly and stays in place exactly where you leave it.
Double Hung windows typically come with a “full screen” that covers the entire opening, allowing you to open the top or bottom. Single Hung windows usually have a “half screen” covering only the bottom operating section.
Yes. We offer optional ventilation limiters (night latches). These are small pop-out tabs that prevent the window from being opened more than a few inches, allowing for airflow while preventing a child from falling out.
While Casement windows (crank-outs) are technically the tightest seal, our modern Hung windows are exceptional. They use advanced weatherstripping at the “check rail” (where the two sashes meet) to block drafts and wind-driven rain effectively.
Slightly. Since the top sash is fixed, you cannot tilt it in to clean the outside. You would need to clean the exterior of the top glass from the outside of the house. The bottom sash still tilts in for easy cleaning.
