The Low-Maintenance Door Windsor Homes Deserve

A Good Door Installed Badly Will Never Outperform an Average Door Installed Right

Advanced Home Services has been installing doors throughout Windsor-Essex since 1989 — 37 years of in-house expertise, no subcontractors, and a Platinum Warranty on every installation. We have pulled out plenty of expensive doors that failed early, and the door itself was almost never the reason. It was an out-of-plumb jamb, shims under the wrong point, foam packed so tight it bowed the frame, or a perimeter gap stuffed with fibreglass batt and called insulated.

So we treat the installation as the product. The unit you choose from our Windsor door showroom and door collection matters, but what decides whether it still closes with one finger in year fifteen is how square the opening was made, how the frame was fastened, and how the perimeter was insulated, sealed, and flashed. Our SAWDAC-trained crews run the same sequence on a rear entry in Amherstburg as on a double front entry in Windsor.

What We Install

Exterior Door Installation for Every Opening in the House

Entry and Front Doors

Steel, fibreglass, and wood-edge entry systems in single, single-with-sidelite, and double configurations. A front entry carries the most visible finish work on the house, so we are exacting about reveal consistency, sill pitch, and the transition into brick or siding. Oversized units get an extra fastening pattern so the added weight cannot rack the frame.

Side-by-side comparison of patio doors: the left shows old, dark wooden doors, and the right shows new, modern gray sliding doors with vertical blinds.

Patio and Sliding Doors

Sliding and swing patio doors are the least forgiving install in the house, because the panel travels along a plane you create on site. A slider set 3 mm out of level will bind at one end of its stroke within a season. We support the track along its full length, verify the head is straight before the panel goes in, and confirm the interlock closes evenly.

Storm and Screen Doors

A storm door adds a second air barrier and takes the weather load off your primary door’s finish and weatherstripping. Fit is everything: the frame has to follow the existing brickmould without twisting, and the closer must anchor into something solid rather than a hollow jamb extension. We size to the opening as built, never to a nominal number.

Our Five-Step Process

How Professional Door Installation Actually Works

1. Precise Measuring and Ordering

An in-house measure technician measures the rough opening — not the old door — at three points across and three up, works from the smallest of each, and checks it for plumb, level, and racking, because this stage is unrecoverable once a factory-built unit arrives.

2. Removal and Inspection of the Rough Opening

With the old unit, casing, and trim out, we probe the threshold subfloor and the bottom of the studs and sill plate for rot, soft sheathing, and insect damage, confirm the header is sound, and repair anything compromised before a new door goes near it.

3. Setting, Shimming and Squaring

The unit is dry-fit, set on a bedded level sill, and shimmed in opposing pairs behind every hinge and strike with fasteners driven through the shim stacks into framing, then adjusted until the reveal is even end to end — visible proof the frame is square, plumb, and in one plane.

4. Insulating, Sealing and Flashing

The perimeter gets a controlled bead of low-expansion foam that seals air without bowing the jamb, sill pan flashing and sealant under the threshold to drain water back outside, exterior membrane lapped over the housewrap in shingle order, and a tooled interior air seal.

5. Trim, Hardware and Final Adjustment

Brickmould is caulked at the head and legs with the bottom left open to drain, interior casing is scribed to the wall, hardware goes on with deadbolts striking full-depth into framing, and we set the sill for even weatherstrip compression, cycle the door, clean up, and haul the old unit away.

Door Installation FAQs

How long does door installation take?

A straightforward exterior entry door in an existing opening is usually a one-day job and often a half day. Patio and sliding doors typically take a full day because of panel weight and track levelling. Multiple doors, sidelite assemblies, or openings needing framing repair can run into a second day. We give you a realistic window at the measure, and if we open a wall and find rot, we stop and talk to you first.

Yes. Removal, haul-away, and disposal of the old door, frame, and trim are all included. Our crew protects flooring and the work path on the way in, keeps the site tidy through the day, and cleans up before leaving, including a magnet sweep for fasteners near the threshold. You never need to book a bin, make a dump run, or store the old unit in your garage.

Generally no, if the new door goes into the existing opening at the same size — like-for-like replacement is usually treated as maintenance. A permit is normally required when you enlarge or create an opening, since that alters framing in what may be a load-bearing wall, and it can apply to some garage-entry and fire-separation work. Requirements vary by municipality, so we confirm with your building department and handle the paperwork when one is needed.

Your quote covers the in-home measure, the unit as specified, removal and disposal of the old one, all labour by our own crew, insulation and air sealing, flashing, interior and exterior trim, sealant, hardware installation and adjustment, cleanup, and the Platinum Warranty. Structural repairs found behind the old unit are quoted separately once the extent is visible, and we always show you before proceeding. Budget early with our door cost calculator.

Our warranty depends on us controlling both the product and the installation, so we normally supply and install as one scope and stand behind the whole assembly rather than pointing at a manufacturer. If you already have a unit on hand, call us and we will talk it through honestly, including whether its size and jamb depth actually suit your opening. For a door already in place, see door replacement or door repair.

Yes — Windsor, LaSalle, Tecumseh, Amherstburg, Essex, Lakeshore, Kingsville, and Leamington, with every community we cover listed on our Windsor-Essex service area page. You get the same in-house crews, the same process, and the same Platinum Warranty in every municipality, since 1989. Many homeowners also bundle window replacement or window repair with a door install to save paying for a second mobilization later on.
