Don't Neglect Your Downstairs View

WINDSOR'S BASEMENT WINDOW SPECIALISTS

For many Windsor homeowners, the basement is an afterthought—dark, drafty, and prone to moisture. But with the right windows, your lower level can become your family’s favorite space.

At Advanced Home Services, we specialize in replacing those rusty, single-pane steel windows with modern vinyl solutions. Whether you need a simple swap for a utility room or a full concrete cut-out for a legal bedroom, our Bowe Basement solutions bring natural light and fresh air into the depths of your home.

Function Meets Safety

Our Basement Window Collections

The "Hopper" Tilt-In Window

The classic choice for smaller basement openings. These windows are hinged at the bottom and tilt inward at the top, acting as a scoop to bring fresh air into the room while keeping rain out.

The "Glider" Sliding Window

Ideal for wider openings where you don’t want a window protruding into the room. These smooth-operating windows slide horizontally, offering a clean look and easy operation for years to come.

The "Egress" Casement Window

The gold standard for safety. If you have a bedroom in your basement, Windsor building code likely requires an Egress window. These large, side-hinged windows crank open fully to allow for an easy escape route.

From moisture control to rental income

Why Upgrade Your Basement Windows?

Waterproofing & Moisture Control

Windsor is known for its high water table and humid summers. Old basement windows are often the culprit for damp smells and leaks. Our vinyl windows feature fusion-welded corners and advanced weatherstripping to create a watertight seal against the elements.

Legal Safety Compliance

If you are planning to finish your basement or add a rental suite (ADU), safety is non-negotiable. Converting small windows into large Egress windows ensures your family or tenants have a safe way out in case of a fire, keeping you compliant with city inspectors.

Enhanced Home Security

Basement windows are often targeted by intruders because they are low to the ground and often hidden by bushes. Our windows feature reinforced cam locks and options for privacy glass or security bars, keeping your home secure without sacrificing light.

Thermal Efficiency

Cold air sinks. If your basement windows are drafty, your furnace has to work overtime to heat the whole house. Energy-efficient vinyl windows keep the cold air out, making your basement floors warmer and lowering your overall utility bills.

Windsor Basement Window FAQs

Get answers to the most common questions Windsor homeowners ask about basement windows—from pricing and sizing to installation and energy savings.

What is an "Egress" window?

An Egress window is a window large enough for a person to climb out of in an emergency (like a fire) and for a firefighter to climb in. In Windsor, any room used as a bedroom in a basement must have an egress window by law.

Yes. This is a process called a “cut-out.” We excavate the dirt outside, cut the concrete foundation wall to enlarge the opening, install the new larger window, and install a window well.

If the window is below the grade (ground level), yes. A window well holds the earth back and provides a space for drainage. For Egress windows, the well must be deep and wide enough to allow a person to climb out.

Since basement windows are at eye level for people walking by, we often recommend “Frosted” or “Obscure” glass. This lets the light pour in but blurs the view so no one can see inside.

100%. We use high-grade vinyl frames. Unlike the old wood or steel frames found in many older Windsor homes, vinyl will never rust, rot, or pit, even when exposed to snow and damp soil.

Proper drainage is key. We can install window wells with a gravel base and, if necessary, connect a drain to your home’s weeping tile system to ensure water flows away from the window rather than pooling against it.

Yes. Old single-pane windows “sweat” (condensation) in the winter and let humid air in during the summer. Our double-pane, Argon-filled units reduce condensation and seal the room tight, helping your dehumidifier work less.

A standard “retrofit” (swapping old for new in the same size) can often be done in just an hour or two per window. A full concrete cut-out for an Egress window typically takes one to two days to complete, including excavation.
